Associate Director of Residence Life (Live-On Position)
General Purpose of Job: To create an atmosphere on campus that aligns with the institutional mission of Grand View University. The Associate Director of Residence Life will create an environment that allows all students to be successful, and develop holistically through placements, proactive communications, activities, academic ties, and one on one personal interaction.
Goals:
- Retain residential students at higher rate than that of comparative institutions.
- Create an atmosphere inviting to all Grand View students.
- Direct housing placement of all residential students.
- Foster and pursue care and maintenance of the physical facilities for the comfort, health, and safety of all residents.
- Maximize utilization of residential spaces for summer housing and programs.
- Create an engaging, exciting environment for students to enjoy.
Functions and Roles:
Administrative:
- This is a live-on position. The Associate Director is provided a house on campus. Utilities, internet, and cable provided.
- Assist in the selection of all student staff within Residence Life.
- Oversee communications regarding new student placement and housing paperwork being mailed from the Residence Life Department.
- Be active on councils and committees within the institution.
- Create new ways to collect data, encourage engagement and interaction, and create action plans for students struggling with engagement.
- Present new trends, themes, and other information regarding summer housing, summer programs, residential withdrawals, and physical plant maintenance.
- Serve as the primary administrator for Grand View’s housing management system (eRezLife)
- Collaborate with Dining Services to process invoices, process meal plan changes, and provide student feedback on food quality.
- Collaborate with Disability Services to meet accommodation needs of students related to housing.
- Other duties as assigned.
Student Development:
- Engage students in an intentional manner aimed at promoting interaction with the campus community.
- Lead residential issues that stem from social or engaging issues between roommates.
- Assist in the development of leadership skills with student leaders on the Residence Life staff and Residential Experience Council.
Departmental:
- Advise Residential Experience Council throughout the course of the academic year and assist with all programs, service projects, and meetings.
- Coordinate housing assignments for all students through updating annual contracts, overseeing the lottery selection process and sign-up nights, gathering roommate requests.
- Strategically plan all residential transitions from spring to summer and summer to fall, including cleaning of spaces and maintenance needs.
- Coordinate with the Conferencing Department to schedule all Summer Intern resident move-ins, move-outs, and communications, as well as residential summer conferencing and hiring/training student staff.
- Disseminate information and reports to Hall Directors to identify students who may need additional support or intervention
- Generate roster of winter break residents and process housing extensions accordingly.
- Serve as a hearing officer/investigator for Title IX cases and Student Code of Conduct Violations
- Participate in on-call rotation for campus emergencies that require involvement beyond the Hall Director
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree required, master’s preferred
- Knowledge of theories and learning relative to college level human development
- Previous residence life experience highly preferred
Working Conditions:
- Typical physical demands – lifting up to 30 pounds.
- Requires prolonged sitting, standing, bending, stooping and stretching.
- Emotional stability and personal maturity are important attributes in this position.
- Must handle diverse work problems on a daily basis.
- Flexibility in scheduling during peak times of year with necessary evening hours.
Work schedule (days & hours) Mon-Fri, 8am-4pm (some weekends, evenings and on-call hours required)
