Overview of Department

Grand View University’s Career Center provides services for a variety of stakeholders on and off campus:

  • Students & Alumni: Provide resources and individual assistance (virtually and in-person) related to job/internship searching strategies, graduate school preparation, career exploration, application materials (resumes, cover letters), interview preparation, networking, job offer evaluation, and salary negotiation.

  • Employers: Assist employers in connecting with students on campus and promoting openings through Handshake, a job and internship recruiting platform.

  • University: Present and provide workshops in classes, collect and report First-Destination Survey data, coordinate campus vocation events, and plan career fairs and employer events.

Overview of Position

The Career Center Graduate Assistant will play a key role in supporting the Career Center with multiple strategic initiatives. Once trained, the Graduate Assistant will conduct individual career development appointments and class presentations related to resumes, cover letters, career exploration, and interview preparation. Additionally, the Graduate Assistant will help plan career fairs and campus events. There is flexibility to tailor the position to the Graduate Assistant’s existing or desired skill set. This position will report to the Director of the Career Center and will be a critical member of the Career Center team. This is an on-campus position, and the graduate assistant must enroll full-time in a Grand View University graduate program to work as the Career Center Graduate Assistant.

Compensation & Hours

  • 20 hours/week assistantship (fall & spring semesters)

  • $2,000/semester

  • 100% tuition remission for Grand View's graduate program (Note: If GV pays more than $5,250 in educational assistance benefits for you during a calendar year, you must pay taxes on the amount over $5,250. GV will include this information on your W-2.)

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead one-on-one career coaching appointments with students on resumes, cover letters, career exploration, and interview preparation, documenting appointment notes in Navigate

  • Assist with Career Center events and initiatives, including employer events and career fairs

  • Facilitate in-class workshops collaboratively and independently

  • Learn about existing Career Center resources and find new career-related resources for student use, promoting resources to the entire campus community

  • Collaboratively collect First-Destination Survey data, including calling and emailing recent graduates to learn their post-graduate career outcomes

  • Develop methods to increase the Grand View Career Center’s student engagement

  • Collaborate with the Career Center team, contributing to weekly meetings

  • Other duties as assigned
