Part-Time Associate Director of The Jordan Project

Associate Director of Jordan Project (part-time, working approximately 20 hours per week, benefit eligible)

Position Summary: The Associate Director of Jordan Project works in the Campus Ministry department and reports to the Director of Faith Life.

The Jordan Project is a new program that ignites life and innovation into female-led rural and small-town congregations across the Midwest in the ELCA and other full communion partner denominations. Pastors and leaders from their congregations will explore their congregations’ rapidly changing social and cultural contexts, gain clarity about their values and mission, and draw on Lutheran theological practices and traditions to adapt their ministry to the demands of their changing contexts. With this knowledge and the skills to engage, pastors and their congregational leaders will be prepared to lead thriving congregations that experience a renewal of anticipatory joy.

Supervision: The Associate Director of Jordan Project works under the direct supervision of the Director of Faith Life.

Responsibilities: The responsibilities of the position are dictated by the Thriving Congregations Grant from the Lilly Endowment. The following constitute the major responsibilities of the position:

  • Recruitment

    • Annually recruit 15 pastors to be participants in Jordan Project.

    • In collaboration with pastors, recruit congregational members to participate.

  • Event Coordination

    • Plan, design, and coordinate with Jordan Project partners and the Campus Ministry team to lead two in-person events for 15 pastors and congregational leaders during each grant year.

    • Organize, provide assistance, and resources, and attend Zoom meetings through online educational opportunities.

  • Curriculum Assistance and Administration

    • Work with the curriculum development team to manage the Jordan Project curriculum.

    • Help pastors and congregational leaders catch a vision for their components within the larger curriculum.

    • Assist pastors with materials for their congregational projects at their churches.

    • In partnership with Faith Life Director, monitor the budget.

    • Manage schedule, make appointments, and other administrative tasks.

  • Marketing and Communications

    • Be a brand ambassador for Grand View University in all interactions.

    • Prompt and professional communication across various mediums such as phone, email, social media, etc.

    • Work with the Grand View Marketing Department to maintain a marketing strategy for Jordan Project.

    • Maintain regular communication with all stakeholders of Jordan Project.

    • Maintain regular communication with the Lilly Endowment and Leadership Education at Duke University.

    • Manage the online content portion of Jordan Project (blogs, social media, podcast, etc.)

  • Presence and Collaboration

    • Be an active presence at Campus Ministry events and activities, particularly our Tuesday Chapel service.

    • Maintain healthy, professional relationships with Campus Ministry staff as well as colleagues, curriculum developers, participants, and Jordan Project collaborators.

    • Maintain a weekly meeting with the Director of Faith Life.

    • Assist and be present for other Campus Ministry program events.

  • Other

    • Seek development opportunities to grow Jordan Project beyond the bounds of the grant.

    • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Faith Life

  • Required Qualifications

    • Familiarity with the Lutheran theological tradition.

    • Be creative, innovative, communicative, and reliable.

    • Be willing to work collaboratively with a supervising Director of Faith Life and other constituencies.

    • Organizational skills.

  • Preferred Qualifications

    • Ordained or rostered leader in the ELCA

The Associate Director of the Jordan Project serves to implement the program goals. We desire applicants with a commitment to Christian faith and an understanding of the ELCA theological tradition. Jordan Project is a part of the Lilly Endowment’s Thriving Congregations grant initiative.

Hours are flexible and variable but primarily during weekdays and daytime hours.
